J.D. Souther, a singer-songwriter who penned hits for the Eagles, Linda Ronstadt, and other artists, died Sunday at his home in Tennessee. He was 64. Mr Souther's publicist, Liz Rosenberg, announced his death but did not specify the cause.
Mr Souther had battled health problems over the last year, including a heart attack at his home in California in 2021.
Mr Souther was known for the emotional depth and sensitive lyrics of his songs, which blended elements of folk, country, and rock. Some of his most famous compositions include "Best of My Love," "Heartache Tonight," and "New Kid in Town," which he co-wrote with Don Henley and Glenn Frey of the Eagles.
Mr Souther was also a successful solo artist, releasing several albums throughout his career. His 1979 self-titled debut album featured the hit single "You're Only Lonely," which reached the top 10 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
