Congressman Menendez Condemns House Republicans' Refusal to Consider His Amendment

Menendez's Amendment Aimed to Protect New Jersey

Menendez, a Democrat, represents New Jersey's Eighth Congressional District, which includes Hudson, Union, and Essex counties. Menendez has served in the House of Representatives since 2006 and is a member of the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure.

In a statement, Menendez said that he was "deeply disappointed" by the House Republicans' refusal to consider his amendment to H.R. WEB. The amendment would have required the Department of Transportation to conduct a study on the impact of the proposed Gateway Project on the New Jersey economy.

"The Gateway Project is a critical infrastructure project that would create jobs, improve our transportation system, and boost our economy," Menendez said. "I am very disappointed that House Republicans refused to consider my amendment, which would have ensured that the project is fully studied before any decisions are made."

The Gateway Project is a $27 billion infrastructure project that would build a new rail tunnel under the Hudson River, as well as other improvements to the region's transportation system. The project is supported by a coalition of business leaders, labor unions, and environmental groups.

House Republicans have opposed the Gateway Project, arguing that it is too expensive and that the federal government should not be involved in funding it. The Trump administration has also opposed the project, and has proposed cutting funding for it in the federal budget.
