Early Life and Education
Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was born on July 15, 1939, in Mashhad, Iran. He studied Islamic theology in Qom and Najaf and became a prominent cleric during the Islamic Revolution in 1979.
Political Career
After the revolution, Khamenei held various positions, including President of Iran from 1981 to 1989. In 1989, he was appointed Supreme Leader of Iran, succeeding Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini. As Supreme Leader, Khamenei has the highest political and religious authority in Iran.
